Phantom Blade Zero True Ending Guide

The Phantom Blade Zero true ending depends on finishing the purple story quests before their cutoff, then completing Bloodline Awakening and the additional final fight. Stop at the Mirage Estate warning if your earlier quest chains are unfinished.

Where to stop before Mirage Estate

Your first major checkpoint comes during The Four Serpent Houses. The main quest sends you to obtain items from the White, Black and Red Serpent Houses, then use them to open the route behind the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen. The passage leads into Mirage Estate; reaching that entrance is not the same as completing the optional story chains.

If the game warns that ending-related objectives remain, turn back rather than accepting the transition. You can return to those objectives from this warning. Continuing with the required quests unfinished prevents the Phantom Blade Zero true ending; clearing the main-story route alone does not substitute for them.

Use the purple icons in the story quest menu to distinguish these chains from ordinary main-story progression. A purple quest can span several regions, so an objective completed in one area does not necessarily mean its whole chain is finished. Check the quest's completion state, not simply whether you remember meeting its character or entering its first location.

Purple quests to finish before the transition

The Phantom Blade Zero true ending uses these connected purple questlines. Check each box only when the corresponding quest is complete, rather than when you accept it. Earlier purple story quests also need to be finished; the later branches below are the ones that send you back into optional areas.

Connect the Illusory Pipa, Herald and Manor routes

Restore the Illusory Pipa before trying to reach Mountain of Imprisonment. The entrance is beyond the mist on the northern side of Meigu Lake, and the restored instrument opens that route. This optional region is part of the ending-route dependencies, not an alternative way into Mirage Estate.

The Herald's Illusion requires visits to three portals. You encounter one after the Puppet Testing Grounds boss in the Village of Lu, another beyond the final boss of Mandate Encampment, and the last after progressing through Mountain of Imprisonment. Visiting an early portal and seeing the hanging puppet does not finish this quest.

After reaching all the Herald gates, interact with the hanging figure at Puppet Cell. You receive the Puppet's Tongue and Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin]. These rewards serve different locks: the tongue opens Crimson Manor, while the eye belongs to the later Meigu Lake objective. Receiving the eye does not remove the need to return to the manor.

Return to the Crimson Manor Bell in Weeping Creek Valley and use the Puppet's Tongue on the locked entrance. If you reached the manor earlier but could not open it, this is the item that changes that visit. The manor lies beneath the Sha-Chi Tower approach: an explosive-carrying enemy can break the metal obstruction, exposing the elevator down.

Continue through the manor and defeat its hidden encounter to collect Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang] and Hansui's Frost Mask. You now have the second eye and the manor's Acolyte mask, rather than merely access to the building. Those rewards feed the same lake return trip, which is why leaving after opening the front door would leave the route unfinished.

Dependency chain from restored Pipa and all three Herald portals to Puppet’s Tongue, Crimson Manor and the paired Crystal Puppet Eyes.
The Herald chain branches into two item uses: the tongue opens Crimson Manor; the Yin eye stays in your inventory for the later statue.

Open the mirror and finish the lake objective

For this part of the Phantom Blade Zero true ending, collect the masks from all four Acolyte encounters. Their scarecrows are in the Village of Lu, Pangzhen, Meigu Lake and Crimson Manor. Interacting with a scarecrow takes you into its Acolyte encounter; the reward comes from defeating that boss, not from discovering the scarecrow.

With all four masks, use the boat to reach the icy western side of Meigu Lake and approach the mirror. The masks open the path into the Phantom Illusionist realm. This is a separate destination from Mountain of Imprisonment: restoring the Pipa opens the northern mist route, while the Acolyte masks open this mirror route.

Progress through the realm and defeat its boss. Afterward, place both Crystal Puppet Eyes in the statue. The Yin eye from the Herald chain and the Yang eye from Crimson Manor are both required here; arriving with only the masks gets you inside but leaves this final interaction unfinished. After placing the eyes, finish the encounter with the elders inside to complete Secrets at the Heart of the Lake.

There is also a Long Pillar inside the mirror realm. Complete its encounter during this visit so that opening the area, finishing the lake quest and advancing Bloodline Awakening remain distinct completed objectives. Reaching the realm's boss does not itself count as completing the Pillar challenge.

The mirror diagram separates access, the lake quest and Bloodline Awakening. Reaching the realm does not mark all three as complete.

Finish Bloodline Awakening, then cross the final warning

Bloodline Awakening requires all five Long Pillar encounters. The last part becomes available in Mirage Estate, so this quest belongs after the earlier transition checkpoint rather than on your pre-estate completion list. Finish the remaining encounter before committing to the final battles in Mount Soulrend.

Mount Soulrend contains another point of no return before the final boss. Resolve any outstanding ending objectives before passing it. The Phantom Blade Zero true ending is completed through an additional battle after the normal final encounter, not by choosing a different dialogue answer at the entrance.

Ending spoilers: the extra battle and completion reward

When the required quest chains are complete, defeating the normal final boss leads to an additional fight that does not appear on the regular-ending route. Win that encounter to complete the true ending and earn its associated trophy or achievement. Do not stop after the normal final boss falls: the extra battle is part of finishing this ending.
